Introduction to Software Tags
There are two types of software tags.
Software Identification (SWID) Tags
Software identification tags (SWID tags) record unique information about an installed software application, including its name, edition, version, whether it's part of a bundle and more. SWID tags support software inventory and asset management initiatives. The structure of SWID tags is specified in international standard ISO/IEC 19770-2:2009.

Software Entitlement (SWEN) Tags
Software entitlement tags will specify how license consumption measurement can be automated. This provides the next level of support for the automated software asset management process. The standard for these is currently under development as ISO/IEC 19770-3.
