CA - Howard Hastings

Chairman of the Board

Howard Hastings serves as ITAM Evangelist at CA. An IAITAM Fellow, with a career spanning more than 30 years in IT, Howard leverages his experience in IT Service Management (ITSM) as a practitioner, corporate manager, software executive and entrepreneur to further CA’s position in the marketplace and influence internal product direction.

Howard joined CA when it acquired DecisionRight in 2007 where he was a Co-founder and VP of Solutions developing software recognition and augmented content for software inventory/asset management tool publishers and delivering software license compliance services to IT organizations. At DecisionRight Howard helped draft the initial versions of the ISO 19770-2 (“Software Data Tag”) and 19770-3 (“Entitlement”) standards.

A frequent speaker and writer for trade publications as well as an expert witness for software copyright infringement and counterfeiting litigation, Howard has also performed multiple updates of the Certified Software Manager (CSM) curriculum, the only industry sanctioned education covering US and Canadian copyright law and the external audit process as it pertains to computer software for the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA).

ModusLink - Jim Werner

Treasurer

Jim Werner, General Manager for ModusLink Corporation’s Entitlement Management solutions, has spent more than 26 years managing human capital, developing new products, expanding into untapped markets, and selling complex electronic data solutions. He has been an integral part of ModusLink Corporation Entitlement Management solutions management team since the company’s inception. Jim’s expertise in growing businesses and selling to high technology companies is well-leveraged in his current position. In Jim’s current role, he is responsible for the operation of ModusLink’s Entitlement Management Solutions.
 
After earning his MBA from the University of Chicago, Jim joined R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company, rising to a leadership position in its Global Software Services division, which eventually became part of Stream International, and ultimately Modus Media. Open Channel Solutions spun out of Modus Media in 2000 and Jim became a key member of the management team. During the course of his career, Jim has led strategic global accounts including IBM, Microsoft, Cisco, Ericsson, Hewlett-Packard, and Linksys. In addition, he has been responsible for market development in both Europe and Latin America.

  

Tim Willey

Sr. Director, Licensing Strategies

Tim Willey is responsible for managing Pricing and Licensing Strategy, Policy and Programs at Symantec.  This includes developing Symantec’s In-product Licensing strategy, as well as Software Asset Tagging strategy.
 
Most recently, Tim has developed a simplified approach to Pricing and Licensing for Symantec, which is designed to significantly reduce the volume of SKUs and price-points which are published through the sales channels.  Prior to this, Tim helped to set-up and establish the global Office of Pricing and Licensing, to co-ordinate and drive new Pricing and Licensing approaches, designed to improve ease of doing business for Customers and Partners.
 
Before joining Symantec, Tim was a Director in the Corporate Strategy practice at Deloitte in London, where he worked with leading Technology, Telecoms and Media companies to drive profitable growth strategies.  This included helping global organizations tackle strategic challenges across Europe, Asia and the US.
 
Tim graduated top in his year with a B.Sc. in Economics from Nottingham University (one of the top 3 Universities for Economics in the UK).

 

TagVault.org - Steve Klos

 Executive Director

Steve was the convener the ISO/IEC 19770-2:2009 draft focused on software identification (SWID) tags.  Based on his work on the development of the SWID tag standard and his extensive background in all aspects of Software Asset Management, Steve became the executive director of TagVault.org – the registration and certification authority for ISO/IEC 19770-2:2009 software identification tags and the organization providing tools, services and specialized knowledge for software identification tags to the SAM ecosystem. 

Steve co-founded Agnitio Advisors, a company focused on developing, evaluating and improving software asset management policies and procedures.  He also co-founded ManageSoft Corporation, a leading provider of desktop, security and software asset management tools and services.  

Steve is the recipient of multiple industry certifications in Software Asset Management and has been privileged to become an IAITAM Fellow .  Steve is a certified instructor for SAM training classes and has presented at many conferences including CA World, Gartner, IAITAM, and SoftSummit.
